Chichester Harbour Conservancy

The Conservancy was established by the Chichester Harbour Conservancy Act 1971. Its duty is the conservancy, maintenance and improvement of the Harbour and the Amenity Area for recreation and leisure, nature conservation and the natural beauty. The Conservancy also acts as the Joint Advisory Committee for the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

Walking around Chichester Harbour is always a joy. There are over 90km of public rights of way through the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Many of these paths run right along the shoreline giving fantastic views of the water. Others cut across farmland and through the picturesque harbour villages. We organise walks and activities that cover a wide range of interests, giving you a chance to learn more about the area in an informal setting. We are sure you will find something suitable.

Cycling is a great way to see the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Salterns Way route leads from Chichester to West Wittering and National Route 2 passes across the top of the harbour. Salterns Way is an 18km cycle route from the centre of Chichester to the sand dunes of East Head. Some of the route is on dedicated cycle paths and other sections follow country lanes and some roads. The route is managed by Chichester Harbour Conservancy.
